"HUMOUR OF THE PEOPLES" Art Collection

In the course of already 38 years the House of Humour and Satire has succeeded in building up a sizable art collection (38 174 art works by 9 050 artists from 173 countries) comprising independent sub-collections of cartoons (22 376), graphic works (3 436), paintings (1, 339), sculpture (931), posters (274), funny photographs (9 511), carnival masks and costumes (307), etc. It is worth noting that 2/3 of these art values have been donated (66 100 donations by 15 908 artists and cultural institutes from the world over) by artists and entrants in the international events of the HHS, or by artists who have staged one-person shows at various stages of their development. A considerably smaller part of the collection has been amassed through purchases. Therefore, it is reasonable to claim that the Humour of the Peoples art collection is the result of the individual goodwill and contribution of thousands of artists in the world.
Nowadays the collection serves as an inexhaustible source of thematic, group, one-person and travelling exhibitions (500 exhibitions and collections have been shown in Europe, Africa, North America and the Middle East). The Humour of the Peoples art collection is best presented in the catalogue-albums of the International Biennial of Humour and Satire in the Arts, the CD-ROM Rp./A Pinch of Humour Daily-20-21st c. (300 colour pictures, 40 minutes of music, more than 25 minutes of video, text and commentary in Bulgarian and English) and the guidebook and CD "Gabrovo - a Humour Capital" published in Bulgarian and English in 2003.
Part of the collection is a specialized library with 25 000 titles and 1000 volumes of periodicals in 35 languages.
