When a celebrated sculpture briefly went missing from a Rodin exhibition in Santiago, the "theft" turned out to be a provocative statement, masterminded by a precocious art student. His actions sparked a public outcry and a furious debate on the nature of art itself. This lively and perceptive documentary revisits the scene of an extraordinary incident that captured the world's attention and challenged the global art community.

The programme of documentary films screenings is realized in partnership with Master of Art Film Festival.

People from all over the world have come to love Israeli writer Etgar Keret for his surreal short stories and his hilarious live performances. As The Guardian wrote: “Spending time with him is like entering the world of his stories: suddenly, everything seems slightly off-kilter, full of comic potential.”
Both Keret’s short stories and the anecdotes from his own life, share the fact that they are very relatable despite their incredible absurdities. How did Keret become such an amazing storyteller?
When two young Dutch filmmakers set out to make a film about Etgar Keret’s stories, they knew they had to make use of a lot of different techniques to truly show how his mind works. Through animations of his stories, re-enactments of his anecdotes, peeks behind the scenes and interviews with family and friends (Jonathan Safran Foer and Ira Glass among them) in Tel Aviv and New York, they try to find out why Keret’s constant storytelling has kept him alive.

The Argentinean painter Antonio Segui has lived and worked in Paris since the 1960s. In his studio, he appears alone on the screen and speaks. “I have been shooting 24 days spread over 2 years and a half, and there is only the painter and me, the filmmaker (Francois Catonne). I film each line of charcoal, each stroke of color, in an intimacy that only images can tell, as if suddenly the camera reveals to us only, the secret of painting. In Le Mystere Picasso, the director Clouzot said: ‘To know what goes through the mind of a painter, just follow his hand’. That’s what I did.”

Bjarke Ingels started out as a young man dreaming of creating cartoons. Now, he has been named “one of architecture’s biggest stars” by The Wall Street Journal. Big Time follows Bjarke during the course of 5 years (2011-2016), while he struggles to finish his biggest project so far. We are let into Bjarke’s creative processes as well as the endless compromises that his work entails, and we are on the side when his personal life starts putting pressure on him, too.
Bjarke Ingels’ company - Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) - has been given the task of designing and building one of the skyscrapers to replace the Twin Towers, which collapsed on September 11th, 2001 in Manhattan. While Bjarke is creating a building, which will change the New York skyline, he is hit by health-related issues. The film offers an intimate look into the innovative and ambitious Danish architect whom the entire world is celebrating as a genius.

It turns out that her fiance has favoured the sister of filthy rich Vlasov. It's a secret to no one that this Vlasov in question ranks thirteenth in wealth in the country, and that he goes for all sorts of underwater sports devoting much time to his hobby all over Thailand, incognito at that. Only no one knows how the man looks like. But this poses no obstacle to Rita as she is set to make him fall in love with her. So she sets off looking for him on the mystic island of Tao. Journalist Kostya will be helping her in her quest. What happens on the island? Exotic ambience, action, love, infatuation, revelation.... and more.
23.08 8:15 p.m. - Summer Cinema in the Park of Laughter - Иван Васильевич меняет профессию (Ivan Vasilievich Changes His Job) (1973, Russia, director: Leonid Gaidai, after motifs of Mikhail Bulgakov's play Ivan Vasilievich) Free admission

29.08 8:15 p.m. - Summer Cinema in the Park of Laughter - Zert (The Joke) (1968, Czechoslovakia, director: Jaromil Jires) Free admission
It is considered one of the last films of the Czech New Wave movement. Based on Milan Kundera's novel of the same name, The Joke tells the story of Ludvík Jahn, a man expelled from the Czechoslovak Communist Party for an idle joke to his girlfriend, and the revenge he later seeks through adultery. The film was produced during the political liberalization of the 1968 Prague Spring and contains many scenes which satirize and criticize the country's communist leadership. Amos Vogel wrote that the film was "possibly the most shattering indictment of totalitarianism to come out of a Communist country"
30.08 8:15 p.m. - Summer Cinema in the Park of Laughter - Ja, truchlivy buh (I, the Sorrowful God) (1969, Czechoslovakia, director: Antonin Kachlik) Free admission
Adolf, the irresistible seducer of women, is fond of Janicka, a novice opera singer. The girl, however, prefers famous men and Adolf thus does not have a single chance with her. One day in a hospital, he meets a Greek partisan named Apostolek who impresses him with his spontaneity and ease in solving all problems, especially those with women. Adolf has an idea for a revenge. He makes Apostolek familiar with social manners, dresses him after the latest fashion and introduces him to Janicka as a Greek conductor. Janicka instantly falls in love with the made-up composer and Apostolek does no better. The film is based on Milan Kundara's first published story.

In 1932, undergoing a midlife crisis aggravated by the coming of the talkies, Chaplin decides not to return to Hollywood after touring Europe to promote City Lights. Instead, with his brother Sydney, he “escapes” to Bali. The island seems a real peace haven, as he is virtually unknown there. Fascinated by the serene lifestyle of its inhabitants, Chaplin finds rejuvenation and inspiration in their dances, which he films extensively with the help of his brother. Bali helps him resolve his fear of sound, thus enabling him to embark on a new phase of filmmaking that will lead him to Modern Times, the first movie in which he does even better than speak, he sings!

Austrian designer Stefan Sagmeister is doing well. He lives in New York, the city of his dreams, and he has success in his work, designing album covers for the Rolling Stones, Jay-Z and the Talking Heads. But in the back of his mind he suspects there must be something more. He decides to turn himself into a design project. Can he redesign his personality to become a better person? Is it possible to train his mind to get happier? He pursues 3 controlled experiments of meditation, therapy, and drugs, grading himself along the way. But real life creeps in and confounds the process: art, sex, death, and love prove impossible to disentangle. His unique designs and painfully personal experiences mark a journey that travels closer to himself than ever intended.
