"Like everything sinful in this world, the House of Humour and Satire was conceived in sin too... The totalitarian state wanted to turn it into a CAGE for all more daring and blithe birds. But... Gabrovians have outsmarted everybody! Soon after they welcome their guests and have enough of the medley of their songs they let them fly on their stronger wings out in the AZURE EXPANSE OF FREEDOM."

Gashar (Rumen Gasharov), painter, Bulgaria
February 25, 2016

"When someone has no sense of humour he must at least be intuitively aware of it. Luckily, I have always suspected that I do have it. I was irreversably convined of it when I received the Bulgarian award ALEKO. The visit to your marvellous House is a substatial bonus to the prize. "...It is delightful to see that the Gabrovo Biennial maintains a high level - there are a lot of young artists, contemporary interpretation of ideas, concept, a variety of techniques employed. I am already convinced that I will take part in the next biennials to come. I wish the organizers to keep up the good work because Bulgarian culture and Bulgarian art are in need of staunch support. From a personal perspective, I am looking only forward."

Ivan Yanev, graphic artist
May 16, 2015, 100 Vesti newspaper

"It is my first entry in the Gabrovo Biennial. I was so eager to come here, both to participate in the exhibition and to visit the humour capital. Many of my Istanbul friends had told me stories about Gabrovo. It was from them I learned that Gabrovians docked the tails of the cats and that they were very economical people. Friends again informed me that I had won a Biennial prize. I am most delighted! And here I am at the 22nd edition - happy with the prize! I am very impressed with what I have seen in the six categories. I have seen many a successful work, for artists have portrayed the laughter of the world, what people actually laugh at. Politics is communicated in a different way. I am positve that if people are deprived of laughter, the world will stop exisiting."

Mehmet Tekirdag, painter, musiciam, film director, Turkey
May 16, 2015, 100 Vesti newspaper

"After my entry in the last, 21st edition of the Gabrovo Biennial the world opened up to me. The solo exhibition I am showing now is comprised of works I have never done before, works that bear humour. It is the humour of the Gabrovo Biennial that has played a great part in inspiring me to view things from a different perspective. Very few people knew me as an artist before I won the GOLDEN AESOP Grand Prix. Then I started working more and more people started recognizing me. People from different countries began writing to me and congratulating me. I am so grateful to the House of Humour and Satire for all that is happening to me."

Cemalettin Yildiz, designer, poster artist, Turkey
May 16, 2015, 100 Vesti newspaper

"... May the Gabrovo Biennial keep the bar high, keep up the tradition. Twenty-two editions make an impressive number.
